After spending hours looking through the shelves of our grocery stores, and finding SO MUCH PROCESSED SUGAR in so many snacks- I’ve accumulated a list of my favorite snacks for traveling (and hiking) that are great options for kids AND adults!

Meat Sticks and Jerky
We bought three different types because we love meat sticks! We didn’t have time on this trip to head to our local meat shop to buy high quality jerky- but this is a go to for us! In Illinois, we frequent Reams in Elburn.
All the meat sticks are high in protein, and have little to no processed sugars.
Country Archer Beef Stick - 50 calories, 5g protein, 3.5g fat and 0g added sugars
Righteous Felon Craft Jerky (BBQ)- 110 calories, 8g protein, 3g fat, 3g carbs, and 2g added sugars
Dukes- calories, 7g protein, fat, carbs, and less than 1% added sugars
RX bars are one of the only bars that we have seen in local stores (so they are easily accessible) that don’t have a bunch of crap in them! They actually have the ingredients listed out right on the front of the package, which I’ll include below.
RX BAR Coffee Chocolate- 210 calories, 12g protein, 9g fat, 23g carb, 0g added sugars
*3 egg whites, 6 almonds, 4 cashews, 2 dates, cocoa, sea salt, coffee*
RX BAR Lemon- 210 calories, 12g protein, 8g fat, 24g carbs, 0g added sugars

Apples + Blueberries- 60 calories, 1g protein, 0g fat, 12g carbs, 0g added sugars

Seven Sundays Strawberry Banana Granola
Granola (1/3 cup)- 170 calories, 4g protein, 15g fat, 9g carbs, 0g added sugars.
*bananas, chia seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, strawberries, cinnamon, vanilla extract.
Tuna Packets- 70 calories, 17g protein, 0.5g fat, 0g carbs, 0g added sugars
*100% real tuna!*
We purchased packets, packed some seasoning and a spork and ate them on our hikes!
While I do emphasize eating whole, quality, unprocessed foods as much as you can- these are the healthy options I’ve found for times where you just can’t! (Hello airplane/hikes/road trips etc). Another great things is how well this all packed up into our carryon bags/backpack. I did have the desire to buy popcorn, or bring meats and cheeses but it doesn’t pack well for what we needed.
