When you learn how to live better you will FEEL BETTER
Today we chat about what toxins are in our products and food that can be disrupting our hormones and possibly leading to PMS, infertility, heavy bleeding, migraines, depression, anxiety, etc. We discuss how to identify these toxins and small changes you can make in the food that you eat and the products in your home to start living a healthier life.
Why avoid endocrine disruptors?
They are disrupting our hormones and altering the ability to properly function!
-causing PMS, infertility, heavy bleeding, migraines, depression, anxiety, etc.
4 endocrine disruptors we should be aware of;
Parabens: preservative in lotions and body wash. This is easy to find because you will see the word parabens on the label.
Phthalates- what keeps the fragrance lasting so long. These are harder to find because they don't have to be listed on products.
aluminum- used as the antiperspirant in deodorants.
BPA's- plastic food storage containers (tupperware). Easy switch to glass containers!
These are in products all over our home! Plug ins, air fresheners, laundry detergent, candles, cleaners, feminine products *ANYTHING WITH SCENT*
Karalynne tells us that there was a study with findings that the average home is more polluted than the air in NYC because of what we use IN OUR HOME!
We can't control everything but we can control what's in our home!
What should we be aware of in our cleaning products?
BOCs
Formaldehyde Releasers
Artificial Dyes
Bleach- should only use in situations we need a serious disinfectant, NOT on a daily basis! (Or look for brands like Force of Nature for alternative non-toxic bleaches!)
Typically if a company is phthalate free they have cleaned up other ingredients too
Alright, we know toxins in our home but what about our food?
Here is the moral of the story;
1. Foods: focus on adding in fruits and veggies
2. Read labels: look for Whole Foods, means better choice!
*i.e high fructose corn syrup compared to maple syrup
ORGANIC VS NON-ORGANIC
processed food: snacks, crackers- word that government created to say NO artificial sweeteners, dyes, preservatives, flavors, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, added hormones
produce: tells about the pesticides and herbicides- only 25 (better option chemicals) out of 900 allowed.
SO NOW WHAT?
BE AWARE: Start reading labels and make small changes (use what you have and buy the better choice next time).. over time you will have so many better choices by replacing products slowly with better ones
ADD: add fruit and vegetables means you will eat less processed.
