Let’s be real, sometimes first birthdays are less about the party and more about watching your baby go face-first into their very first cake. And if you’re like me, you want that cake to be something you actually feel good about giving them. That’s why I whipped up this simple, healthy first birthday smash cake made with real ingredients—and it turned out even better than I hoped!
This recipe came from my desire to keep things low sugar, super nourishing, and still delicious enough that the birthday baby (and any sneaky siblings or guests) would devour it. Plus, it’s made entirely in the blender. Can I get a mom-win for that?

The Ingredients: Simple + Wholesome
Here’s everything you’ll need:
1 cup almond flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter
2 large ripe bananas
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp sea salt
All pantry staples you probably already have on hand. No refined sugar, no weird ingredients you have to Google first, and everything is naturally sweetened with ripe bananas.
Let’s Talk Simple Supplies
You’ll need just a couple of things:
A blender (or food processor)
Small cake tins (I used two to get that cute layered look)
The Step-by-Step
Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease two small cake tins with butter.
Toss all your ingredients into the blender. (Yep, all of it. No separate mixing bowls or mess.)
Blend it until it’s nice and smooth, then pour it into your tins.
Bake at 350°F for 15–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let them cool completely before frosting (I popped mi
ne in the fridge to firm up overnight.)
Frost with homemade whipped cream
Top with berries or dye-free sprinkles, and get ready to watch your baby go all in.
A Few Tips
This cake stores well in the fridge and can be made up to 48 hours in advance (which is a huge relief when you’re planning a party).
If you want to switch things up, you could substitute peanut butter for almond or sunflower seed butter.
And yes, it works great for smash cake photos AND for serving to other littles!
Honestly, this cake was a hit. It’s soft, flavorful, and packed with real ingredients that support your baby’s body (while still feeling like a treat). First birthdays are such a special milestone, and I’m so glad I could make it just a little sweeter—with something nourishing, simple, and homemade with love. 💛

Jess
